AUCKLAND TRAM ACCIDENT.
JURY'S EIDERS. By Telegraph.—Press AssociationAuckland, Last Night. Tie jury in the inquest on Mrs. Elizabeth Annie Birch, a victim of tbe tram accident at Onehunga on May 20, found that she died of shock as the result of the accident; that it was" no part of the motorman's duties as defined in the company'a regulations, to look round to the back of the car when starting, but it had been the custom for some, years past j that the motorman' accidentally fell off the car while looking round, and that he would not have fallen had the controller handle been sufficiently close fitting. ' The following rider was added: "We approve of the custom of rhotormen looking round to the rear of the car, and recommend that so long as this custom obtains he shall not start the cp.r before doing go; (2) We consider that there should be a chain across a mot;-. Man's entrance to prevent him from fair :; <-JT a car when on duty; (3) We recomiwr.d that advertising matter which obstn!"»,'4 passengers' and the conductor's linv of the motorman should be sufficiently removed to admit of a clear view of tho' motorman from inside the car.
