o "THE WHARF RAT." A MOST ATTRACTIVE PHOTODRAMA A refreshingly original picture took up the major portion of the new pro-, gramme at The Empire Theatre last night. The picture, which has its setting in the San Francisco waterfront, is entitled "The Wharf Rat." It is splendidly produced by the Triangle Company. The whimsical and dainty little film artiste, Mae Marsh, is tho heroine in the part of the wharf rat, and if all the waterfront rats at San Francisco arc as charming as she is, it must be a good place to live in. Robert Harron is also seen in the picture. The story is a strong one, and apart from the engrossing interest 'it arouses through its enactment on the world-famous American waterfront, it has its sensations, and, of course, the inevitable love interest. One s)f tho thrills of tho picture is given when the heroine dives off tho deck of a large steamer. Chapter eight of Gloria's Romance is entitled "The Mist of Mystery. The serial grows more and more interesting as it goes on. In the name part iliss Billio Burke is as effective as ever. To-night will he the final presentation of jjjius selection. , , TO-MORROW. ' ; ; "' 'Mary Pickford will he featured tomorrow and Thursday in the splendid Famous Players special star film, "The •Girl of Yesterday." This ia ono of Mary's best characters and has proved the greatest success of all her recent portrayals. It is in this picture that Mary takes her first ride in an aeroplane, with her dainty face wreathed in smiles.
