NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.
WOfIKS COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the Works Committee of the New Plymouth Borough Council was held last night. Present; The Mayor (Mr. C. H. Burgesß), Crs. Q. W. Browne, E. J. Deare, W. A. Collis, W. F Short, F. J. Hill, J. W. Hayden, and J. Clarke. A deputation from the Tarahaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, consisting of Messrs JB. Gilmour and J. R. All!, waited on the committee with regard to the water supply to the New Plymouth hospital. They asked that instead of being charged Is per thousand gallons for the water supply, the charge should be fixed at £l2O per annum.—lt was decided to fix the amount for this'year at £125, the future charges to fee dealt -■ with as they ensue. Messrs Cock and Co. applied for a 21n. water service for a hydraulio lift ia their new premises in Currie Street.— Granted. The borough engineer submitted an estimate of the cost of re-forming, metalling, and forming a footpath in Waiwaka Terrace, between the railway bridge and Mangorei Road. To avoid trespassing on private property, fa'the batter of the embankment he bad laid \ off work to give a, finished width of. l roadway of 31ft. and a path on one side only 9ft. wide, at a total estimated cost of £331 8s 7d. lis over 2000 cubic yards would have to be borrowed from Mangoroi Koad, the whole cost of formation should not be debited against Waiwaka Terrace, because in constructing this road another street would be'widened, and the latter should be charged £9O as proportion of the cost. Tho Mayor said there was no doubt the work would have to be done eventually, but he was not prepared to support »n expenditure of £3SL at the present time—not till they found how tho £42,000 loan was going to pan out. Of course the High School' authorities had only asked for a footpath, but the engineer considered that the road should ,be formed at the same time., Thero j were a good many other works demandi ing prior attention, and he moved that I the High School Board be informed that the matter would be dealt with whan it was ascertained how far the loan monies ' would go. ,The motion was seconded by Cr, Hayden and carried. It was decided to adopt a scheme for I the drainage of Hcndrio Street, provided that half of the total cost, estimated at about £2OO, be paid by the High School . Board. The Waimate Wcßt County Council incited co-opontion in urging the Government to provide for the inspection of all meat slaughtered for human consumption throughout the Dominion, the proVision to apply to all districts irreapec' tivo of papulation.—On the motion of Cr. Hayden, seconded by the Mayor, it was decided to support the proposal.
