REDUCTION OF RACING.

THE CONFERENCES 'AND THE GOVERNMENT. (From Our Own Correspondent). Wellington, Juno !). The Racing and Trotting Conferences will sot about the reduction of racing days for tho coming season, in terms of the arrangement "with the Goveninißiit, without delay. It is no secret that the racing authorities havo accepted the 'decision of tho Government unwillingly. They do not believe that the reduction of racing is going to increase the national efficiency or provide additional men for tho forces, but the decision has been made and it will be carried into effect. The reduction of one-third is to apply to each of the racing districts separately. The idea of the Ministers is that the reduction should he spread over nil the clubs as evenly as possible, but apparently tho Ministers are very glad to leave the arrangement of details to the racing committees to be constituted un'der the scheme. The proposals of the committees will be subject to revision by the Government, and it is possible, of course, that Parliament will presently •have -something to say on the subject.
