The.attendance of the uublic at the farewell social tendered to Private ,T. A. Lees last night was vei'v good, a large number attending from' Stratford awl other towns. Mr. M. Genhoefer controlled .affairr, and as M.C. kept things- going morrilv. Miss. E. Sangstcr created a very favorable'impression with her item "Sing, Song" and Mr. Tom Ranford was equally successful in the balhd: ''Mate o' Mine" and "To-morrow will be Friday." The comic element -was v-pted to Mr. Frank Banford. and he is responsible in a large measure for t!ia successful evening's entertainment. Mr. Joseph Wade delighted all with a neatlystepped Highland Fling. An item that also i 3 worthy of mention was a pianoforte scioctioii by Mr. Ken. Impett, during \vk"ch be introduced several coon melodic/. Mr. Gernhoefer, during the evening, presented Private J. A. Lees with a wristlet watch, and in doing so cjjpressed tho hope that the departing soldier would be able to follow In the footsteps of his comrades who had gone ahead, and reflect the honor of Toko in his actions. He wished him a safe passage Home, and that he would return sound in health and limb. Private Lees' briefly responded. Mrs. Bianehi presided at the piano, her playing being greatly appreciated by the dancers. An excellent supper was provided by the ladies. GENERAL. A sitting of the S.M. Court will be held to-morrow (Friday). Besides the usual debt cases, charges will be heard against a Douglas farmer for being drunk while in charge of a motor car, and a case of failing to remove blackberries and ragwort on his farm in Huiroa, S.D., will be heard against a Finnerty road farmer. The police are also prosecuting a Waipuku lad for placing gelignite on the railway line at the York road crossing, Waipuku. The funeral of the late Mrs. N. B. Fryday took place this afternoon. A large number of mourners followed the cortege to the cemetery, where the Bev. C. Howard - officiated. Much sympathy Has been expressed to Mr. Fryday and family in their bereavement. The staff of non-commissioned officers and defence officers of the Taranaki division intend holding a refresher camp at 'Wanganui, commencing Monday, June 11, and continuing to 21st instant. The Stratford •Picture! Amusement Company assume control of His Majesty's Theatre at the beginning of July. The present lessee, Mr. Foley, will act as manager 'to the new company. The new theatre is making steady progress, but from the work ahead it does not look as if it is possible to havo new premises ready before October. T. Lamason's weekly report: Last Saturday our usual sale was held at the marl, when we had a very fair entry of poultry aiid potatoes; other lines were slack." We quote as follows: Hens 1/3 to 11-, cockerels 1/3 to 2/-, gresc 3/to 3/6, ducks 2/3 up to 4/9 each, potatoes 2001b sack and cover 15/-, pumpkins II- to 7/0 sack, pollard 15/ C to 16/-, cabbage 2/0 td 3/- doz, cauliflower 2/9.' Furniture and sundries at usual auction rates. T. Lamason's usual Saturday sale is advertised, and in addition an oil engine and a lino of crockery, etc., will be offered for sale. Crockeryware is becoming more and more expensive as the shipments become more scarce. That being so, those ladies on the'look-out for the very best Doulton china and other ware should note that the best variety, combined with moderate prices, will be found at C. E. James' warehouse.
