NOVEL TACTICS AND WEAPONS.
«. USED IN. THE NEW, OFFENSIVE. Mr Boach Thomas (Daily Mail correspondent at British headquarters) says that the airmen now face regular barrages. In the recent fighting our "Archies" put up a close barrage behind one of our observing planes, which was pursued by nine German fighting planes. This barrage was most effective, and the only German who faced it was hit, and fell. Among the novelties we have seen are armour-piercing bullets, and also explosive bullets, for special purposes. The craoke barrage has become a feature. In portions of the front many German batteries do not fire witHout it. It is remarkable that almost all the attacking inventions are ours. We havo invented the best light mortars light machine guns, and armoured cars. We first employed smoke to conceal storming'parties, while the Germans use it for safeguarding guns, or at sea in escaping pursuit. It is in tho mechanics of defence that Germany chiefly excels.
