THE RECENT HONORS.
Mr. J. p. Luke, C.M.G., 'Mayor, of Wellington, has occupied that' position for the past four years. He previously served as a member of the City Council, and ho also had been a member of various other public bodies' in Wellington, lie was elected to Parliament in 1908 for the Wellington Suburbs Heat as an Independent Liberal. He contested the same scat in 1911, but was defeated. In 1914 he unsuccessfully con tested / the Wellington South seat. Mr. Luke formerly was a member of the firm of S. Luke and Co., ironfounders, of Wellington. Ke is a native of Penzance, Cornwall, and is 50 years of age. Dr. Frederick Truby King, upon whom the. C.M.G. has been conferred, was born at New Plymouth in 1958, and took his degrees in medicine at Edinburgh. Since 1889' he has been superintendent of tho Seacliff Mental Hospital. He is wellknown throughout the Dominion for his efforts in connection with the preservation of infant lift having been instrumental in founding the Karitane Babies Home -near Dunedin. Ho is a recognised authority on mental diseases, and is lecturer on that subject at the Otago University. Lieut.-Colonel H. H. Potter, C.M.G., of New Zealand Staff Corps, who is commandant of the Trentham Camp, served tn the South African war, being memtiondd iu despatches. Formerly he belonged to tho Canterbury Defence staff. liieut.-Colonel Noel Adams, C.M.G., commandant of the camp, was in practico as a solicitor at NeTson i prior to his present appointment. He is | 'the son of Mr. Porcy Adams, senior partner in the Nelson legal firm of Messrs. Adams and Harley. As a territorial officer he commanded H. Battery (Nelson), Sew Zealand Field Artillery. Mr. W. R. Morris, 1.5.0., is a native of Dublin and is 04 years of age. lie formerly was in the postal service in his native city and on arriving in New Zealand in 1874 ho entered the post office service as a money-order clerk. After various promotions he became assistantsecretary to the Department in 1907. In Wl3, ho succeeded Mr. D. Robertson as secretary on the latter's appointment as Public Service Commissioner. Mr. Morris took a great interest in the volunteer movement and he was the founder of the Wellington Post and Telegraph Rifles, of which corps ho was captain for some years. Brigadier-General E. W. C. Chaytor, who has been made an additional aide do camp to the King, commanded tho New Zealand Mounted' Brigade from the commencement of the campaign on the Sinai desert until a few weeks ago, when ho was promoted to the command of the division. His two previous honors, the C.B. and C.M.G., were conferred upon him in recognition of his services during the present war. The distinguished sol- ' dier is a New Zealander bdrn, and served in South Africa.
