Mr. Hanan, Minister in Charge of the Aliens Board, in answer to a question whether there was any truth in the stat'oment that the interned aliens at Somes Island would be employed in cer- j tain road! works, said that certain pro- , posals had been drawn up with the view '' of allowing the interned aliens to volunteer for work on roads in the North | Island but, owing to the fact that winter ' was an unsuitable time, to start operations the matter would be held over in the meantime until the fine weather [ came round. The work was considered more suitable than agricultural work for interned prisoners, owing to the greater case of guarding and handling gangs of men. JUVENILE EMPLOYMENT BUREAUX Christchurch, June 4. The Minister of Education has given instructions to the Education Departhient to take the necessary steps to es. tablish, firstly in the larger cities, juvenile employment bureaux. The Minister explained that the idea was to give young lads and girls a better chance to gain an entrance into walks of life for which they might be specially fitted, into which in the ordinary course of things they could hardly hope to enter. The idea briefly was for the schoolmaster o? any boy or girl who intended making use of the bureau to furnish a dossier in which the master's estimate of the young person's capability and possibilities would be set out. Employers who made use of the bureau could then have a reasonable chance of being provided with a lad who would in all likelihood be- specially suitable for the employers' trade . or profession.
