ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Eltham, June 1,

The euchre tournament was advanced a further stage last night, piny resulting as> folows: —Hibernians A 12 v. B 3; Druids 11 v. Foresters 4; Oddfellows B 9 v. A 6. The play next week will be Druids v. Fire Brigade; Oddfellows A v. Hibernians A; Oddfellows B v. Hibernians B; Foresters a bye. The Salvation Army Hall held a large and interested audience last night, the occasion being a lecture on India by Staff-Captain Carter. Adjutant Tutton presided, whilst several army members were - attired in Indian costumes. Life in India, customs, ,etc., explained in detail. The lecture was a most instructive one, and appreciated by all present. Several native songs and choruses were contributed during the evening and euriqs exhibited. Private Harry J. Andrews, who left Eltham as a member of the 2nd reinforcements in January, 1915, writes home to the effect that things are going well with him. Although badly wounded at Gallipoli, submarined on the Marquette,. taken to Salpnika, and thence to England, and later on to France, he has had no holiday, except a course or hospital treatment, and that is surely no holiday. Ife, like many more of the main body, is wondering when they will have a spell. Writing on March 25, lie states that all leave had then been curtailed, and that no more was likely till after the big offensive, which he believed would keep going till next winter, it does not look as if our soldiers are to smoke the pipe of peace this side of Christmas. The Eltham 'Patriotic Mart on Saturday will be controlled by the ladies of St. Joseph's congregtaion. Although only running quite recently these marts have cauglit on with the public, and with the tea rooms, are bringing much good cash to the various patriotic funds.
