THE EMPIRE.
-MATINEE 'JO-DAL—''BROKEN CHAINS." Ethel Clayton and Carlyle Blackwell shown for the lirst time at the Empire last night. "Broken Chains" is the title of the film. The chains are convict chains which by the labor laws of the United States of America are conveniently lengthened so as to permit the leasing of convicts to citizens. When it is know that a fascinating heroine is able to lease a handsome lover of hers in this way the picture naturally strikes the right note from the interest of the public. The convict lover, by the way, is quite innocent of the crime ilmt has sent him to gaol, and in spite of the fact that things look very black against him his lover never doubts his innocence. The finale is eminently astisfactory to all concerned, except, of course, for the 'inevitable evildoer. There are some tense situations in the picture which from a scenic point of view alone is striking. The supports include an interesting Caumont War Graphic On Monday night the remarkable Triangle drama, "The 'Sin Yc Do," will be screened for the first time.
