THE FOOD CONTROLLER. LORD DEVON.PORT RESIGNS; _ London, May 30. I here are renewed repqrts that Lor JJevonport is resigning owing to ill health. His resignation ia regarded ii some quarters as a foregone conclusion and that a Labor member will succeei him. ; United Service. Received May 31, 11.55 p.m. London, May 31. The Daily Mail states that Lord Dev onport has resigned the office of Fooi Controller, and that Captain Bathurst tho Assistant Controller, will carry oi tlie duties until a successor has been ap< pointed. . Received June 1, 12.55 a.m. ■ London, May 31. The Daily Telegraph's Parliamentary correspondent has been authorised to announce that Lord Devonport resigned owing to ill-health, and that Mr. Lloyc Meorge accepted the resignation. Lore Devonport suffered rrom a severe break' down some months ago, and has not yet recovered. CABINET RECONSTRUCTION SUGGESTED. The newspapers recommend Mr Lloyd George to consider the formation i'f a post-war Cabinet which would probably retain therein the members of the War Cabinet, and the Foreign and Colonial Ministers. Also tW' lie should immediately appoint a Minister of Reconstruction, who would preside over the Reconstruction Board, to which representatives of the Dominions and Departments of Labor, Finance, Agriculture, Commerce, Food, Shipping, Education, ohd Local Government would report frequently. PREPARING FOR DEMOBILISATION. A Director of Demobilisation ought immediately to be appointed, and such a system promptly established as will prevent dark days like those which followed' Waterloo, when only 300,000 soldiers 3iad to find civil employment, while now they would be dealing with millions from every part of the Empire. Trade unionism having improved the workers' outlook they will not tolerate a lower nandard of living. CONTROL OF TOBACCO. PRICES TO BE FI#ED. Received May 31, 11.50 p.m. London, May 31. The Board of Trade assumes the control of tobacco and prohibits dealings therein except as authorised. The Board will fix the wholesale and retail prices on June .1. POST AIL PRECAUTIONS. (London, May 30. The British Post Office has adopted the system of sending the originals and duplicates of letters poßteil together for Australia and New Zealand by successive mails.
