PUKEKURA PARK.
To-morrow (Saturday) a number of ladies have arranged to make a collection on behalf of the Pukekura Park funds. The fact'that such a step is imperatively necessary easts a reflection on the residents of New Plymouth, for it would; seem 'that it should be a point of honor on their part to contribute yearly subscriptions which would place the finances of the Board in such a condition as to meet all the necesasry expenses for the upkeep of what is universally recognised as the most picturesque park in the Dominion. There is no doubt that tho people of New Plymouth are proud of this magnificent asset, but they apparently do not recognise that it cannot be kept in proper condition without expenditure. By great good fortune the curator is not only one 0/ tho best specialists in this kind of work, but he is also an; exceptional enthusiast, the result being that the natural beauties of the park have ibeen wonderfully enhanced by his artistic skill and expert knowledge. Until this domain is vested in the Borough Council and the expenses covered by a rate that would fall on all householders, the system of an annual rally has to be continued. It is not too much to ask, even in this time of intense stress, and'when there are so many other calls for financial aid, that a liberal response be made to tho efforts of the collectors, for whose services the community should be thankful.
