'♦ ! .. WELLINGTON PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE.. LAND FOR RETURNED SOLDIERS. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Marton, Last Night. The conference of the Wellington (Provincial Farmers' Union resumed to-day. The committee appointed by the conference to consider the settlement of returned soldiers reported in favor of a motion that the conference of the Farmers' Union recommends that the Government should at once secure land for returned soldiers, such land to comprise land of first-class quality, and suitable for such men as nrc unfit for buck-blocks hardships, and in order to supply such lam compulsory acquisition, at fair values, should be carried out, and the land paid for with 4J per cent, debentures, free of taxation, leaving the owner, if he so wishes, land of a market value of at least £35,000. After discussion the motion was adopted unanimously. It was resolved: "That'this conference recognises the splendid morlc Mr, Moss has done for the Union, while president, and congratulates him on the honorable and important position which he has accepted, and appointed him a life member of the Union." G. L. Marshall was elected president; •T. Birch treasurer; W. B. Matheson vicepresident; A. D. McLeod, Hugh Morrison (Masterton), H. Morrison (Greytown), H. A. Kevins, D. McGregor and A. T. Whatman, members of the executive for the East Coast; J. H. Perrett, ,T. Balsillic, J. H. Booth, Ewen Campbell, J. Oliver, A Robinson and A. Howie for the West' Coast, nnd Sir .las. Wilson and Tlios. Moss were elected honorary members of the executive; A. T. Whatman for Fast Coast and Mr. Robinson for the We.-r, Const, were elected members of the Dominion Executive. , It was resolved that the Dominion Ex ; ccutive confer ort the best means fft con-1 trolling the distribution of our produce on the English market. The proposal to form a Farmers' Shipp'mjr Company was cordially endorsed. The Government Life Insurance, is to be asked to allow clients the privilege of giving three months 1 notice for partial repayments of mortgages instead of the present system of payment of three months' interest.
