THE WHEAT DEAL.

(From Our' Own Correspondent). Wellington, May 28. A statement issueti by the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald this evening concerning his visit to Australia covers a good deal of ground without giving much information about wheat. The Minister mentions merely that he has bought a million bushels of Australian wheat on behalf of the New Zealand Government and has arranged for shipment to New Zealand. He does not state what price he has paid. , A further statement will be available after Mr. Mac Donald has consulted with his colleagues in the Ministry. The first shipment of the Australian wheat is already on its way to Dunedin, and it,is understood that the price is lower than the 5s 9d a bushel f.o.b. mentioned in .a cablegram from Melbourne the other day. Australian newspapers state that New Zealand is to pay 5s 6d f.o.b. and they congratulate the managers of the wheat pool on having made an excellent sale on behalf of the Australian farmers.
