A PROPOSAL NOT APPROVED. MINISTER'S VIEWS ON SOLDIERS' CLUBS AND HOSTELS. \ " Wellington, Last Night. [ The Minister of Public Health (Mr. Russell) does not approve of the scheme of the Wellington Patriotic Society to purchase the property of the late John Duthie for the purpose of .establishing a . home for soldiers returning from the E war and suffering from mental afflictions I caused by their war service. He states j that two institutions are already available, entirely outside the mental hospitals, while there are many other uses to which the money of patriotic societies could be devoted. He thinks a large portion of the expenditure that is being devoted to the establishment of soldiers' clubs might with advantage be spettt in more practical directions. As regards soldiers' hostels, there can be no two opinions as to the desirableness of these institutions being evident. iProbably, \ I after the war, tliese may profitably be used for housing soldiers under strict I classification.
