NAVY DAY GIFTS.
£720 ACKNOWLEDGED. The Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs. Wellington, has informed the Mayoress (Mrs. C. H. Burgess) that the sum of £720 contributed by the people of New Plymouth on July 28 last, has been paid over to the Grand Fleet Fund, of which Commodore Halsey is the treasurer. /This fund deals specially with the assistance of invalided and wounded men from the Grand Fleet, and is therefore in a position to deal with the money in the direction intended by the subscribers. A receipt from the lion, secretary of the Grand Fleet Fund was enclosed, together with copies of letters written bv Admiral Bcatty and Commodore Halsey to Sir Thomas Mackenzie. Admiral Bcatty said: '-'The captain of the Fleet has informed me of the exceedingly generous gift which has been made £o°tlio Grand Fleet Fund by the people of New Zealand. I am touched by this very practical .evidence of the sympathy which exists between our fellow-coun-trymen beyond the seas and the navy. I am informing the Fleet of the magnificent donation which is being made for their benefit, and on their behalf I thank the donors very much." Commodore Halsey said: ''As president of the fund I desire to express to you, on behalf of the officers and men of the Fleet, my most sincere thanks, for the very generous subscription to the fund which will eventually be spent in the relief of those men of the Navy who are incapacitated during the war. ' I trust you will convey the very grateful thanks of the Fleet to the people of New Zealand for their generosity."
