LONDON MARKETS. i Australian-N.Z. Cable Association. I London, May 25. I At the wool sales 18.27 C bales of Naw' Zealand wool were offered as cabled on i tho 11th. The average price was about 20d: The wool comprised 650 bales of merinos, 6050 fine crosbreds, ICWO medium and 1320 coarse. About half •was withdrawn, as it consisted! of topmaking sorts unsuitable for the Woollen trade. Probably there will be another similar distribution shortly. Butter.—The market is flat. Danish !,202s to 2045. There is little inquiry for colonial, the reduction in demand being attributed largely to the reduced consumption of bread, also to the plentiful supply of English and Irish. Nominal quotations are: New Zealand 19fls to 2025, Australian 180s to 190s. The maximum prices of colonial have been lowered 10s. Cheese.—Scarce. It is understood that a quantity of New Zealand and Australian will shortly be released to retailers. ■ BANK,OF ENGLAND RETURNS. London, May 24. The following are the Bank of England returns for the week ended last Wodnesdav:— Coin and 'bullion," £52,696,000. Reserve, £34,830,000. Note circulation, £38,896,000. Government deposits, £47,120,000. Other deposits, £131,604,000. ' Government securities, £4<5044,000. Other securities, £11«,«11,000. Proportion of reserve to liabilities, 19.48 per cent. Short loans, 4 3-8 per cent.; three months' bills, 4% per cent.
