i Lieut.-Colonels Lindsay aid Jennings, of the No. 1 Wellington Medical Board, arrived in New Plymouth by the mail fjrain on Saturday night. Mr. J. R. Hill has received cable advice to the effect that his son, Private Nelson Hill, has been transferred to Queen Mary's Hospital, Rockhampton, where he is being fitted with an artificial limb. Mr. W, R. Haselden, S.M., has resigned the chairmanship of the North and South Islands Railway Appeal Boards, and Mr. H. W. Bishop, S.M., of Christchurch, has been appointed to the vacancy.
At the gathering at the East End Pavilion on Thursday evening last, Mr. W. Hardgreaves, in the unavoidable absence of the president (Mr. W. P. Nicpll), presented Private S. Hooper, on behalf of the committee, with a wristlet Watch. Private Hooper was formerly a member of the committee, and is now On final leave.
At the meeting of the Jlarme»» Oo» operative Organisation Society on Saturday, votes of sympathy were extended to the relatives of the late Mr. J. A. Turton, auditor to the society, and Messrs J. A. Cramp and W. Booth, members of the staff, both of whom 'had made the supreme sacrifice for King and country. v. Among the New Plymouth members of the 27th Relnforceents who arrived homo on final leave are:—-Sergeant V. C. Dayies, Lance-Cwporah A, Bayly and J. Morton (Egmont Village), Privates C. Fair, H. C. Brophy (Okato), H, Clawson, J. Loonan (Puniho),, A. W. W. Tyrrilb (Tikorajigi). Among the railwaymen drawn in the second railway ballot at Wellington on Thursday were the following:—M, B. Cleary, porter, Hawera; M. Lynch, surfaceman, Waitotaraj T. Magee, surfaceman, Stratford; D. R. S. Munro, clerk, Hawera; J. O'Brien, surfaceman, Hawera; F. J. Stephens, clerk, New Plymouth.''lt is believed that it is the intention of the Defence Department to have the' 200 men drawn medically examined as soon as possible, and from the number of medically fit a certain quoi' ta will be sent to camp.
