In announcing this at the concert on Thursday night, the chairman, Mr. L. A. An interesting marriage took place on March (1 at St. Dominie's Priory, England, says a correspondent, between SubLieutenant R. H. Ward, R.N.R., and Miss F. V. E. Jacobscn, M.A., English mistress of J;he Girls' Grammar School, Auckland. The bridegroom, who is on duty in the North Sea, obtained fifteen days' leave, and the ceremony was per-' formed by the Rev. Father Leather. After the ceremony a few relatives and friends met at the Trocadc'ro, r.::d on March 15 Lieutenant Ward returned to his duties. Mrs. Ward will probably take up some useful kind of war work. It was a disappointment to both that two brothers of each—Lieutenant Ward and Private Ward, and Sapper C. N. ■Tacobsen and Sergeant L. G. Jacobsen—\vere prevented from attending the wedding, as all leave was cancelled just then.

She was predeceased by her husband some twenty odd years, and is survived by five sons and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Mackenzie enjoyed comparatively good health up to a few days before her death. Three years ago (writeß the Giasgow correspondent ■of the Otago Daily' Times) I saw hcKhale and hearty walking, about in front of her house,
