CONSCRIPT LABOR.
FARMERS' RESOLUTION EXPLAINED. .._ Auckland, May 24. As the outcome of criticism ,by Mr. Arthur Gillies, expert adviser i,o the National Efficiency Commissioner, regarding the Farmers' Union Conference resolution advocating conscription of alien labor, the conference to-day resolved: "This conference wishes it distinctly understood that inpasingthe remit with regard to the conscription of alien labor, we had no thought or desire to obtain cheap labor for our farmß. Our recommendation was that labor be used for national purposes." It vas further added that the labor conscripted be placed at the disposal of the Efficiency Board. It was resolved that the alleged action of the American Meat Trust in 'Now Zealand be a matter for consideration of the incoming executive and thait means to be taken to combat that body. The conference rejected a proposa, that the union constitution be amended, in the direction of allowing participation in politics.
