Received May 25, 5.30 p.m. London, May 24. An Italian official report states:. On■ the Carso yesterday, after s ten hours' violent bombardment, we assaulted and broke through the enemy's lines from Castagnavizza to the sea. While we were heavily engaging the enemy on the left, our troops, after tarrying enemy trenches in the centre and right, occupied part of the area southward of the Castagnavizza-Boseomalo road, passed EoscOpaalo Locate, and captured Pamitno and five strongly fortified heights. The sudden onslaught surprised and nonplussed tho enemy, who counterattacked in the evening, but were severely repulsed.

Wo took over 9000 prisoners yesterday, including 300 officers. Participating in the battle were 130 of our aeroplanes and seaplanes, all of wl.;;;h returned safely, British batteries largely contributed to the bombardment.

We repulsed heavy attacks at Gorizia, and oaptured a strong point on the north-west slopes of San Marco. We considerably progressed at Monte Santo and Vodice.
