AN EXPENSIVE LADDER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the Supreme Court, John Walsh recovered £l'7u from William Butler as damages caused through a ladder, on which plaintiff wag painting a- ho\»e, carrying away. As a result of tha fall his left leg was broken. The jury found that the ladder provided was ■ unsafe. Tlio original claim was £2ss. Notice of appeal was given. AN AUCKLAND CASE. Auckland, Last Night. At the Supreme Court, Alfred Grossey, alias Crossby, alias Sosslej*:. was found guilty of false pretences, forgery and utterance of a cheque and theft, and was sentenced to three years' hard labor. FOREIGN SEAMEX SENTENCED.
Auckland, last Night. At the Supremo Court, Domingo Carlos and Enrique Varela, Spanish firemen, pleaded guilty to assaulting the British members of the crew of a steamer. Carlos was sentenced to six months' and Varela to one month's imprisonment,
