A MARVELLOUS ESCAPE Bv Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, May 21. Then, while changing to second gear, it slipped into neutral before the brakes could be applied, and the car ran back 6ver the side of the road, a sheer drop of SO feet, and turned over three times as it fell. Mrs. Cleaver managed to jump clear with her child before the car dropped over the cliff, but the other occupants fell with the vehicle. Mrs. Barkla and infant fell out at the first overturn.' but Mr. Cleaver went right down. He and Barkla and the child we/o cut about the head, and Mrs. Barkla had her back injured. Morris Ogilvy, head waiter at the Masonic Hotel, has died as the result of injuries sustained by a full from an upper floor on Saturday night. Masterton, May 20. A fatal accident occurred on the road between Masterton and Carterton last night. A young man named Sydney ,-tf'Carthy was riding on a motor cycle in the. direction of Masterton, when he was thrown off his cycle, and sustained such injuries that he died early this morning. Deceased was twenty-one yean of age ! A SHUNTER KILLED. Auckland, Last Night. Harold Tomlinsrip, single, about 30 years of age, employed as a shunter at Mercer, was killed ..this morning through being crushed between two' cars. It is stated that he jumped in between the cars to turn on the Westinghousc crake, and is supposed t,o have been raught in the tap. He was so badly injured that he died in a few minutes.
