Mr. R. Masters, of Stratford, was a passenger for Wellington by the mail train yesterday, A cablegram from Rome states that the Pope has appointed Monsignor Cattaneo Apostolic Delegate to Australia. Vice-Admiral Sturdee has been promoted to Admiral, and Rear-Admiral do Robeck to Vice-Admiral. >, A London cablegram reports the death of Sir Alexander Binnie, a well-known water works engineer, aged 78 years. Miss J. Banwell, recently of the staff of the Chetwode school, and with teaching evpericnco in England, India and Africa, has been appointed assistant mistress of the preparatory department of the Boys' High School. Mr. W. H. Skinner, Commissioner of Crown Lauds for Canterbury, has received cable advice that his son, Corporal H. D. Skinner, D.C.M., who lefb with the Otago Battalion of the 4th Reinforcements, and who was wounded on Gallipoli, has been discharged as unfit from the force.
