MISSION IN ST. JOSEPH'S.
"He that will come after me let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow me." These words of our divine Master and Model are of perpetual truthfulness and application. Without the spirit of self sacrifice there can be no genuine religion. Dainty members of a crucified head would be an anomaly, and a contradiction in terms. The disciple is not or must not be above his master. A wonderful and striking manifestation of this spirit of self sacrifice has been shown by the members of St. Joseph's Church, during the mission now being preached by two priests of the Marist Order. To turn out at 5 o'clock each morning and brave the inclemency of the weather in order tc be present at 0 o'clock mass has been the rule amongst the majority of Catholics this and last week. Tl'ie infectious fervor of the devoted missionaries has communicateij. itself to tho whole Catholic body with the. most benefieient results. The "attendance on Thursday evening, when therj was a special celebration in honor of the Blessed Eucharist, topped the record, the chui h being densely crowded in every part. It must be encouraging and consoling to the missionaries to witness such a iobb response to their soul-3tirring appeals. The mission,,all too short, will close on Sunday evening, when the papal Hiding will be imparted by I'ev. Father Herring, S.M. A week's mission in St. Patrick's Church, ..aitara, will be opeiitd on Sunday after 10 o'clock mass, by the Rev. Father Goggan, S.M.
