PRICE OF PIGS.
To the Editor. Sir, —In view of the remarks made by a director of the N.Z. Farmers' Co.-op. Bacon and Meat Co., Ltd., re price of pigs in tho correspondence column of the Daily News the following letter appearing the Hawke's Bay Herald and signed by a farmer seems to suggest that there is a good deal of dissatisfaction amongst farmers in spite of what directors, however far-seeing they might be, have to say. So far as I can find out all baeou curers in the North Island are paying the farmers 5Jd per lb for bacon pigs. Bacon curers in the South Island are paying 8(1 per lb. Curers will cure for farmers in. the .South at Id, in Hawke's Bay 2d or l:]d, and they keep the trimmings. Take twopence as cost, including loss in curing, bacon costs the curer 7Ad, say Bd, and the retail price is up to Is Cd. Where are our politicians? Have they nothing to say about this? —I am, etc., RENOWN. P.S.—Tho price paid for bacon pigs in Taranaki this season has been 5d per la.
