It is an open secret (writes a Wellington correspondent) that the Acting Prime Minister, Sir James Allen, is running perilously near a breakdown owing to the heaviness of the task which be has to undertake.
The sittings of the Supreme Court in New Plymouth having concluded shortly after the luncheon adjournment yestcday His Honor, Mr. Justice Hosking, left by the afternoon train for .Hawera, to proceed thence to Wellington to-day. In the list of men "ordered to parade" the name of Harold H. Jackson, milker, Opunake (Taranaki Group), appeared. He left New Zealand with the 17Ui re;nforccinents in September la.H. ther (Private L, T). B. Jackson), who returned to New Zealand a few days ago, left him in Franc? ; ome four months ago. It is a cruel shams that men are branded like this by the carelessness of the department concerned.
