BAD WEATHER.

DAMAGE IK WAIRARAPA AND HAWKE'S BAY. ] After quite a spell of bad weather, j there are signs of it clearing. Experiences elsewhere have been worse than in Taranaki. In the Wairarapa the whole of the rivers and streams 'n the district were put in a high state of flood, and much low-lying country was submerged. Communication between Carterton and Greytown was cut off through the Waioliina river having overflowed its banks. Ths t road (between Masterton and Akura was submerged, and traffic was suspended. Many miles of fencing is reported to' have been washed away, and it is feared there has been a considerable loss of stock. One Masterton auctioneering firm lost sixty head of sheep that were in holding paddocks on the bank of the Waipoua river. A phenomenal rainfall was experienced in Napier arid the district over the week-end. Nearly seven inches of rain fell in twenty-three hours at Tutira. The rivers have burst their banks in many places, and large losses of stock are reported. One settler lost £4tDO worth of sheep at Taradale, and Meanee was inundated six feet in some places. In rescuing stock people were overtaken bv floods and compelled to spend several hours in trees. No casualties anil 30 deaths as yet are reported. Many Country roads are blocked, and the Military Service Board is held up between Waikare and Napier.
