THE SOLPIERS' VOTE. Australian-N.Z. Cable Association. Melburne, May 17. Tho first return of the soldiers' vote for tho House of Representatives gives 13,115 for the Nationalists and 8213 for Labor. There arc still 100,uoO soldiers' votes to- come. PROHIBITION VOTE WANTED. Adelaide, May 17. A conference of twenty religions, temperance and social organisations carricl a motion urging a referendum on prohibition at the next elections, HARD ENOUGH. Melbourne, May 17. , Mr. King O'Malley states that he will not be a candidate, for the (Tasmania) vacancy caused by'the death of Mr. Howroyd, as he has had enough. QUEENSLAND LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Brisbane, May 17. Following the defeat of the proposal to abolish the Upper House, the Government is appointing a number of Laborites to tho Council. WESTRALIAN NATIONAL PARTY. Forth, May 17. A conference of political parties, excepting the Official Labor Party, took the initial steps with the view of forming a Nationalist Government, preparatory to an early appeal to the. country. It was decided to ask the; official Laborites to join.
