The monthly meeting of the' School Committee was held last evening. l'rescnt: Mr. J. Boon (chairman). H. Lawn, W. McDonald, V. J. McDonald, C- Martin, 'iY, Robinson, H. Sanderson and .1. Pinkey. A request by the headmaster that the committee should endorse his action in asking the Education Board for four days' extra holidays for i-econdary department each term, in consideration of the extra hours worked, as necessitated bv the railway time-table, was complied with. The question of raisinj funds was discussed, and eventually it was resolved that the chairman and Messrs F. McDonald, Robinson and Lnvn be appointed to organise one or more concerts in aid of funds. The Borough Council is to he asked that when {travelling Fenton street the footpath in front of'the school be kerbed and channelled as far as the picket fence. Messrs Boon and F. J. McDonald were appointed a deputation to wait on the council. The Education Board is to be requested to have down pipes to the shelter shed and the manhole of drain covered. Mr. A. Chard's tender for supply of ten cords of rata was accepted." and the caretaker's application for rise of salary was granted. Mews Pinkev and Lawn were anpointed a visiting committee tor the month. The school inspector's report .showed that the school had obtained very excellent results at the recent examination, and a motion was carried expressing appreciation of the gopd work done.

GENERAL Th«re was an excellent, attendance- of members of the Presbyterian Church at the anniversary re-nnion held in the Foresters' Hall last evening. During the course of the evening addresses were delivered by Revs. H.. 8. Gray (Hawera), £. Culliford (Eltham), R. B. Tinsley (Methodist), Captain Campion (Salvation Army), Rev. J. Dawson Madill and Mr. Xorrie (Whansamomona;. Two anthems were contributed by the choir, and solos by Messrs Tissiman and North. The ladies provided a very acceptable supper, which greatly added to the pleasure. of the evening. Considerable interest was taken in the slander action heard at New Plymouth yesterday. There was a keen demand for the Dftily News in Midhirst and Stratford, and little groups were to be observed discussing the pros and cons of the matter.
