Mr. R, E. Irwin, of Rerauera, has been appointed acting town clerk of Eltham. Mr. Poyntcr goes into camp at the end of the present month.

Second-Lieutenant E. .1. Quilliam, returned from the front recently, I* expected to arrive in New Plymouth by the mail train to-morrow evening. Mr. Justice Hosking arrived in New Plymouth by the mail trftin on Saturday night. He will preside at the session of tho Supreme Court opening here to-day.

Mr. F. J. Gane, of Normanby, it in ceipt of cable advice that his youngest son, Norman, who has been serving with the Australian Forces, is reported "mining since April 15, believed to be a prisoner."

Private D. Dea Forges, invalided homa from France, was enthusiastically welcomed on his arrival at Opunake on Wednesday evening. Mr. W. C. Dudley, on behalf of those present, expressed plea* sure at seeing Private Dea Forges back, and hoped he would soon be fit and weu again.
