GENERAL RUSSKY JOINS WAR COUNCIL. Reuter Service. ■ (Received May 11, 9.30 p.m. Petfograd, May 11. The Provisional Government has lievo General Russky from the command of the Northern front, retaining him a-t a member of the Council of Empire and the War Council. > RUSSIA TRUE TO HERSELV. Sydney, May 11. The Russian Consul, speaking at the Millions' Club luncheon to celebrats the emancipation of Russia, said: "Ths man in the street believes that Russia cannot be trusted because he does not know Russia. I am a Russian and I know my country. I had doubts about her recently, but now I am sure that, though there haß been a lot of pacifist talk, it is only, the bubbling froth after centuries of oppression. "The Russians threw off the fetters because they thought th's Czar and the oligarchy were intriguing for a separate peace. Do you think the nation which did this is likely now to conclude a separate peace? Russia will remain true to herself and the honor of the Allies. Trust Russia; she will not fait you." SOCIALISTS AND PEACE. Reuter Service. Petrograd, May 10. A conference of Socialists and Extremists resolved not to participate in the Stockholm Congress, which will be attended by Borgbje-rg and Schiedemann, as the former is acting in agreement with the latter and other German, Socialists who side with the toman Government.
ENEMY ACTIVITY. London, May 10. A Russian official message states:— There has been intense i'nemy artillery activity in the region of Lake Oiatziole and Smorgon. The enemy attacked the nooded Carpathians westward of Kapecl Mountain, but our machine gun fire compelled them, to retreat.
