WORKS OF ART.

I AND STERLING SILVER SALE. . The residents of New Plymouth will have an opportunity to-day of inspecting for the last time and acquiring for their own possession many valuable oil paintings by some of the bast English and Continental artists, and some very rare and unique sterling silver-pieces. In connection with the oil paintings it may be said that never has a collection been placed before the inhabitants of this town, and it is the determination of Mr. J. M. Schapiro, representative in charge, that every picture (except the three already referred to in these columns) shall be sold genuinely and entirely without reserve. Mr. Baker's works are among this lot, and when it is remembered that these eatinot possibly be any fresh works undertaken by this talented artist, the public will realise that any loss of time attending this sale will be repaid many times over. The opportunity thus presented to-day is in itself a unique one. As already published, Mr. Schapiro.has had on view since Tuesday last, a very varied and most marvellous collection of silver ware, >which it would be impossible to attempt to fully describe here. Suffice it to say that the like has never'been submitted to the public gaze in this town, and the people of New" Plymouth' should take full opportunity of becoming acquainted with it. The management;has asked that, all holders of the original catalogue them with them as a guide to the salo of those pictures left unsold from tho first sale, and wishes us tp, mention thai a fresh catalogue for the silver ware, etc., will he available at the sale this afternoon. The unsold lots from last offering will be first sold, and the sale will be" continued right on till every lot in all over 200) has been tiMibmitted.
