The Egmont Racing Chili's Winter Meeting takes place at Hawcra to-day and to-morrow, and despite curtailed train arrangements a, highly successful gathering seems assured. Mr 'H. The issues appear to be very open, and it .mill be more than strange if the raeins is not well sprinkled with surprises. Mr Alf. Morse has the track and lawns looking very fresh and green, and all arrangements are complete to cater for the comfort of patrons. Unfortunately, the club's secretary Mr V. B. Stratton, is seriously ill, but the secretarial duties are safe in the bands of 'Messrs Nalder (Hawera) and Fred Spriggcns (WangaMui). The horses engaged include the best of the local hunch, and in addition strong teams have been brought through from Auckland, Wanganui, and Waverley. Proceedings will open with the Tongahoe 'Hack Hurdles, h l /. miles, and the lti engaged are a very fair lot. Patronymic heads the list with 11.2, and t-uch a proved weight-carrier should not be .inconvenienced by that impost. The others include promising horses like Otter, Flying Camp, etc.

Thirteen remain in the Tawhiti Handicap, six furlongs. Mia Cara has been going as well as anything on the tracks, and is sure to have a. big following. Revocation is also well in, and the finish promises to ho interesting. Punters will he up against it in the Railway Handicap, 17 holding incit ground. They are not a high-class team, but Signorclla, J<"idelio, 'and Pink Tie have all shown pace in their races. Gentlemen jocksters will all to brought into commission if the whole 22 carded for tiie Ladies' Purse see tne post.'/ Union Jack, Lord Nelson, and Sandy Paul are all fancied, and tlo lastnamed would only require to be/fit and well to render a good account f>f himself in such company. i

Another big field of 21 confronts the public in the Telegraph Handicap, live furlongs. Much, depends on a start in these races, hut quick 'beginners like fnah, Rawakore, Munition, etc., are sure to flatter their supporters at some stage of the scramble. More serious busincss, will be the selection of the favorite for the McEae Memorial Handicap, IVt miles. Kewi Poto, Analogue, and Snnbird are likely to monopolise the betting, with possibly Sunbird a shade better backed than the .other pair. The VVaihi Handicap, S\' s furlongs, has attracted a nice field of 13. Cavmel Arch. Deeside. Flying Camp, and other., are likely to be well 'backed.
