They have agreed on common defence against the submarine menace. The decisions will have a decisive infiuenc in the next few weeks. MISCARRIAGE OF GERMAN DESIGN. Paris, May 7. M, Marcel Hntin states that Friday's Saturday's and Sunday's French attack marks the complete and irremediable miscarriage of the German design upon Paris. Prodigiously violent counter-at-tacks only ended in fresh massacres. General Ludendorff, thoroughly embarrassed, endeavors to reassure, the German people by lies and verbal subterfuges.

AUSTRALIANS' FORWARD PUSH. New York, May 7. Mr. Sims, American co-respondent with the British armies in the held, states that the Australian troops forged ahead a mile or two into the German lines early this morning. At the moment of cabling, a great hole was being maintained against all enemy counter-attacks. The chief point of penetration was around Rienconrt. The Australians began at dawn, and the salient was pushed forward yard by yard to the depth of a mile in face of lite most violent resistance. The thrust carried them east of a village, northerly from Riencourt, which is now henuned in by British troops on all sides except the north. More than a hundred prisoners were taken in the general attack here and elsewhere.

Along the British front there have been no major actions but artillery fighting of the most violent character.

A correspondent at headquarters states that the British, at 3.45 this morning, delivered another attack against Bullecourt, progressing especially dn the right flank. The Australians have thrust a salient into the German lines approximately a mile deep eastward of the village and northward, of the town of Reincourt. Thus the town is hemmed in to the west, east, and south.
