Hopkins, bookseller, will leceive prompt attention.] • .PATRIOTIC MEETING. _ Stratford, May 4. . ® executive committee of the Patriotic Society held a meeting last evening. Piescnt: Messrs \V. P. Kirk wood 1 (chairman), J. W. McMillan, J. B. Richards, W. J. Crawshaw, and 1). J, Malone. A letter was received from Mrs. Colin McLaren (Toko) and Mr. C. H. Fox, inviting the committee's co-operation in a patriotic concert) .they were organising in aid of -the Wounded Soldiers and Red Cross iundj. The date arranged was June 4, and the Town Hall (lie place. The offer was accepted, and -Messrs Kirkwood, McMillan and Crawshaw were appointed a committee to co-operate with the promoters. Messrs Kirkwood and McMillan were appointed delegates to the annual meeting of the War Relief Association, on May 23. The sum of £5 was donated to the amusement fund of the H Company, 2Bth Reinforcements.

Mr. IT. Landers was. elected secretary, vice Mr. J. W. McMillan (resigned), in accepting the latter's resignation tributes were paid to the good services lie had rendered the committee in that capacity, and a minute was recorded to that cfl'ect. Tho action of the sub-committee in procuring a range and erecting a chimney at a cost of £2O wag confirmed. 1 A motion was carried that a solicitor be appointed at the annual meeting to be held in June. A letter of sympathy. will ho forwarded to the secretary in his illness, and the president and Mr. iR. Masters •will attend to the work in the meantime. A letter of condolence will be forwarded to Mrs. Gallagher on the death of her husband, a member of the Association.

, GENERAL. Tlie second entertainment' provided "by. Mrs. P. J. Nathan, assisted by 'Mrs. E. C. BoUinson and Miss Hobaon, yesterday afternoon proved a great success. His Majesty's Theatre was crowded with delighted scholars, -whilst there was a fair sprinkling of adults. The programme was most varied andi proved very acceptable, the talented leader having to respond to many recalls, whilst the vocal items by Mrs. Robinson were also appreciated, and encores generally complied with. Miss 'A. Robsoii was again in sympathetic mood with her accompaniments. Miss Kimßell, of Hawera, assisted with several dances tliat were equally successful. The takings on this occasion were £S. The thanks of the committee arc due to Mr. Foley, , pro . priotor of the theatre, for generously donnting the theatre free of cliarue. The Ngaore ladies had control of the Patriotic Tea Rooms and Mart to-ilnr. Tlie settlers there had liberally responded to tlie call, as one could secure a hare for his Sunday meal and a (birthday cake for his best girl. There were vegetables galorn and knitted goods by the score. Thirsty souls could enjoy light refreshment!] and still have sufficient cash left to make a purchase from the wide range of goods offering.

: A litlo hoy named Bell met with rather severe injuries at his father's home, Kohur&taluj, -this morning. By some means tlie boy, a wee toddler, fell in the fireplace, and in his struggles capsized a pot of hot water over him, thus receiving injuries fry fire and scalds. The mortal remains of the late Mr, P. Phelan were railed to "Wellington this morning, the interment being at Petone. Mr. Byra, of H&trick & Co.'s, has had some busy days here recently.
