Mr. J. W. Bishop, one of the besti known settlers on the Egmqnt road, died on Saturday at his late residence, afte* a lengthy illness. Deceased, who was n member of the well-known Tarahaki family, had boen farming at Egmont Road for many years. He Is survived by a widow and family of several chil» dren, two of his eons being at the preei ent time at the front. The death occurred at Te Awamutu on Monday of Mr. Washington Smith Stew* art, formerly ho&dmaster of the Foxtoa State School, at the age of 76 years. He held the degree of 8.A., being a graduate in Arts of the Boyal University in Ireland,'and also held the classification .of B1 under the New Zealand Department of Education. He entered the Education Department's employ in 1882, his first three years being spent as headmaster of the Cambridge High School. Six sons of Mr. W. H. Haswell, of Auckland, are serving .in His Majesty's forces. John Haswell liaß been serving' in the Eoval Navy for the lnst'lß years. Trooper Harry Haswell left New Zealanl with the Main Body of the Expeditionary Force, fought through the G&llipoli campaign, and is at present with the Auckland Mounted Biflos in Egypt. Sergeant William Haswell went away with the oirliest reinforcement draft, and is now wtih.the New Zealand Field Artillery in France. Corporal Drummond Haswell also fought at Gallipoli, and is now in the Auckland Mounted Rifles in Egypt, Trooper Tui Haswell is also with the same corps, arid Bert Haswell, the last male member of the household, is now on his way to the front. News has been received in Auckland of the death, after a short illness, of Canon E. A. Stuart, of Canterbury, who headed the mission sent from England in 1910 to the Anglican Church in New Zealand. Canon Stuart, who was 63 yeara of ago, was born at Calcutta, and educated at Harrow and St. John's College, Cambridge. Ho was appointed Prebendary of St. Paul's in IDOS, and Canon o$ Caterbury in 1907. '

Second-Lieutenant T>. J. Barnes, aged 22 (son of Mr. H. Barnes, of Grafton Fond, Auckland), lias been accidentally killed whilst flying on duty. It is just iv.oU'e months since S'cond-Lieu tenant IV.vnos left Auckland. He paid his own |):issage to London in order to enlist in the Royal Flying Corps, and only received his commission a few Weeks ago after undergoing a strenuous course of preparation and gaining experience in flying. He passed all his with great credit to himself.
