(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Saturday the long-standing dispute between the Borough Council and the 'Hawera. County Council over the Main South Road, was settled through- tho instrumentality of Mr 'Dixon, the Mayor, Tiie agreement .provides for the County Council paying the borough tho sum of £7-2 lfls, plus an extra £2-1 previousyl agreed \ipon, being half cost of the increased price in tarvia and material which the borough had no control of. The -Hawera Dairy Company has decided to rebuild the'Tawhiti factory on tho old E'tc. and the new building is to be gone on vritli immediately. The Government graders were in ITawera on .Friday, grading the balance of* tho cheese stored in the Winter Show building. It is very satisfactory to know that tho c-heego is keeping very well.

Mr T. -Herbert, of Otakeho, received advice from the Defence authorities that his son. Private A. S. -Herbert, was admitted to Walton-on-Thames Hospital, suffering from a gunshot wound in the left thigh.

The Hawera Tradesmen's Association is considering tho advisability of closing at 5.30 p.m. during tho winter months.
