MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
The /ordinary sitting of the Neijv Plymouth Magistrate's Court was held yesterday before Mr. A. Crooke, S.M. '£' so SPENT IN A MONTH. John .Smith was charged with being helplessly drunk in Powderham street on May 2. In reply to the clerk of t!ie Court lie remarked, "It's a lie!" The Magistrate questioned whether the man had recovered. In reply to Senior Sergeant Bowden, who prosecuted, accused remembered being at the Police Station the previous l night. Senior Sergeant Bowden seated' tlmt the man was found in Powderham Street in a state bordering on o'tlerium tremens and was taken to the lock-up. Smith had left the Mokau, where he had been working about a month ago with over £SO. in his pocket and had sincei been drinking heavily and w.a,s now absolutely penniless, his only property when arrested being a knife and handkerchief. The Senior Sergeant 'thought that a remand for medical treatment, would do accused good. ' ' " Accused was accordingly remanded for a week's medical treatment in the gaol. BREACHES. OF BY-LAWS. Percy Gilbert was charged, on the information of Inspector Tipping, with having driven a gig with only one light. He was convicted and fined 5s and costs. Stanley Wooldridge, who was charged with having driven & motor lorry in Gill Street with only one head light and no tail light. Fined 10s and costs 7s. .. EXEMPTION FROM DRILL. Harold Hardwidge, senior cadet, applied for: exemption from drill as .lie was now residing at Upper Mangorei and would have to travel over line miles to attend parade. Exemption was granted.
