MORLEY STREET EXTENSION. This matter is still held up on account' of the difficulty of obtaining materials and the cost of same. This extension has always had the sympathy of the Council, though they could not see their way to proceed with the work, but I cannot plead guilty to this. I have only claimed the same right as any other councillor or ratepayer, that of expressing my opinion as to whether the time was opportune or not. I have realised from the first that the work was advisable, and if the Council resolve that the extension be made when opportunity offers the preliminary arrangements can ■be gone on with. It may be necessary' to consider whether in carrying the line to junction Morley Street and Wallace Place we' are not liable to have made a similar mistake to those who carried the line to Morley Street only.
