MAY DAY CELEBRATIONS. SIGNIFICANT MESSAGE. ' Amsterdam, May 2. Details of the May Day demonstrations in Germany are scanty. Berlin admits a few strikes, but the majority of workmen did not stop. The Vorwarts gives a significant warning against impatience, and implores the people to be calm. The newspaper believes that 99 per cent, of the soldiers will become pacifists after the war. Vienna reports that orderly strikes are general in Auatro-Hungary demanding peace without annexations or humiliations. Geneva states that there were huge Socialist demonstrations in Zurich which passed off without incident. i /
HINDENBURG CRITICISED.
VIGOROUS PROTEST. Amstordam, May 2. The Berliner Tageblatt says that Herr Cohn, 'Socialist member of the Reichstag, proposed that a committee should consider Germany's military leadership. Pan-German newspapers vigorously protest against criticising Hindenburg', Dut the Socialists insist on a Reichstag discussion. LABOR RIOTS. HEAVY CASUALTIES. Amsterdam, May 2. There are sensational rumors of labor troubles at Cologne and rioting resulting in heavy casualties. The severity of the censorship prevents confirmation.
