HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETINGS.
CARRINGTON BOAB. The head-master's annual report stated that the number on the roll at the be.ginning of t]ie year was -10, the number ■admitted -was 10, while the same number •was withdrawn, leaving the number on the roll at the end of the year at *j. I'he average attendance for the year was '30.25. Owing to the increased attendance the school was placed on the list of Grade ':BA schools, such classification entitling the school to an assistant, Miss G. H. 'Doile being eventually permanently appointed. 'The attendance for the year was somewhat better than that for the previous years. The following secured good attendance certificates: Kenneth Rawlinson, Newton Derby and Ronald Gilbert in Standard VI.; James Smith and William Yeates in Standard IV.; Dairy Colo in Standard III.; Ella Spencer in Standard II.; Mary Smith and Ronald Cole in Standard I.; and Eileen Cole, in Primei 111. Four pupils sat for the proficiency examination held at the Central School ill December last. Three, Kenneth Rawlinjon, Alfred Gilbert and Newton Derby secured certificates of proficiency and one, Ronald Gilbert, a eerticate of competency. Kenneth Rawlinson, who secured highest marks at the afordsaid examination, wasHlux; for the year 1910. The honors to date were as follows:—Arthur Rider 1914, Edith Taylor 1915, and Kenneth Rawlinson, 1916. The "penny a week fund" was inaugurated during the year, with the result that £5 was collected from the pupils and forwarded to the relief of the Belgian children. It was his intention tms year to enter agriculture and dairying to the list of subjects taught m the school. The work %f agriculture would alternate between laboratory experiments Mid outdoor work. The former included . the chemistry of the subject, the testing of soils, manures and seeds. The time, available for outdoor work would be spent on experimental plots, on the cultivation of grasses, and on the application of manures. Grafting, pruning and planting of trees would also be considered; The chairman (Mr. P. G. Yeates), in the course of his report, stated that the work undertaken during the year,, included laying down and fencing, tennis lourt, shifting shelter shed and iconcreting floor of same, erecting of flag pole and procuring Union Jack and erecting summer houses. Most of the work to the tennis court was done by the children, Dr sympathisers. A Tennis Club had been formed. The shelter shed had been ♦hifted by the senior boys under the teachers' supervision, the concreting Doing done at night by members of the committee. At the breaking up for the summer holidays the ceremony of unfurling the Union Jack was performed by Mr. Ballantyne. The summer houses Ivere erected by the pupils and shouui add considerably to the appearance of the grounds when the creepers had time to grow. The school had been closed for a fortnight on account of the recent outbreak of chicken pox and also a fortnight while the teachers attended the agriculture tlasses. Mr. W. E. Bendall presided over a fair attendance. The report stated that the progress of .the school had befn well maintained. The number on the roll was 117, with an average attendance of 104 ,Miss Moore had taken thp place of Miss Parli. Several of the pupils had been very successful a.t the Royal life-saving competitions, having gained certificates, ,and he would like the incoming committee to see that the schogl was again affiliated with the Royal Life-Savin" Association. The Frankley Road school boys were also very successful at the [ cow-testing competition at the Tarunaki Agricultural Show. It stressed* the urgent necessity for additional accommodation at the school, as owing to the use of the gymnasium as a class room the pupils were- without a shelter shed, The school was in a good financial position, showing a credit balance of>■ £(i 2s I'd, and the debt, owing on the piano had been cleared off, leaving them with n credit balance of £3 17s 4d, which helped to provide prizes, etc., at the annual school picnic at Kawaroa Park. In conclusion he expressed the -great loss the district had sustained, in the death oi Mr. E. N. S. Okey, who was always ready to help in any movement for the Frankley Road or the school in general. . The report and balance-sheet were adopted. > A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the outgoing committee. New committee: —Messrs. A. Lister, Baker, liooker, Leriky, Rocli, Prentice and Corney. A hearty vote of htanks was accorded Mr. Bendall for presiding. At a subsequent meeting Mr. A. Lister ,was re-elected chairman and Mr. R. M. Corney secretary and treasurer. RESULTS OF. INGLEWOOD.

Mr. Messonger, who declined nomination for re-election, was accorded a liearty vote, of thanks for his past ■.services, which were warmly eulogised. A vote of thanks was .also tendered to the outgoing committee; also to the headmaster (Mr. D. I J . Evans) and his staff for the efficient way in which they had performed their duties. At the subsequent meeting of the committee, Mr. Winfield was elected chairman. : _ WHANGAMOMONA. (From Our Own Correspondent). Mr. R. 0. Fawkner presided over a fair attendance. An apology was received for the absence, through ill health, of the chairman (Mr. Bovis). The ba-lance-sheet showed a crdit of £B. The school grounds had been graded and drained, and were in good order; Good 'work had been done by the school. Support had been given by the parents in all school affairs. A hearty vote oi thanks was accorded to the late committee—Messrs Bovis (chairman), Fawkner, Sharpe, Agostineli and Xorrie were elect-, ed a new committee. ELTHAM. Mr. A. A. Stewart presided over a very n/oderate attendance of householders. 1 The report referred, to the committee having raised £39 15s 9d by a school concert, and £2l 17s 4d by the picnic, but of this latter, amount the Railway Department claimed £ll 9s 6d. Out ct 239 pupils passes were gained by 200, and four secondary scholars passed the Public Service examination. The report was adopted. The technical director's report was considered satisfactory. It was resolved that the committee elected for the District High School be the Technical. School Committee. Eleven nominations were received for the nine seats, and the following were elected: Messrs A. 'A. Stewart, A. H. Andrews, T. Brooker, Brattle, Lee. Bridger, Papps.. W. Clarry and L. Libeau. At a meeting of the committee held subsequently Mr. Andrews was elected chairman and treasurer, and Mr. Papps secretary. HAWERA. There was an unusually large attendance at the householders' meeting, Mr. R. S. Sage presiding. The animal report, which was adopted, referred to the finances, ground improvements, the Tawhiti side school, the disestablishment of the District High School, the patriotic work of the year, fire drill, etc. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of |£ll. - The following committee was elected: —R, S. Sage, E. A. Pacey, T. li. Walker, G. S. Burton, J. Black, A. Reid, C. Camming, R. L. Hutchens. Mrs. E. B. Bates. At a subsequent meeting of the committee Mr. R. S. Sage was appointed chairman.' TARIKI. The annual meeting of householders was poorly attended. 'Mr-J. Therklesor:, chairman of the old committee, occupied the chair, and read the report and bal-ance-sheet, the latter showing a cre.lif* of £ll 17s. He also stated that during the.year the committee had got through a lot of work. Amongst other things a live hedge (barberry) had been planted for six chains, whilst trees liad been trimmed, etc. Inspector Morton's report showed the examination of the school scholars in a very favorable light, and the committee expressed appreciation of the headmaster, Mr Eason's, work. The committee for the next term are Messrs J. Therkleson (chairman), ,T. Pucker, D. Jones, W. Newin, and Mrs Jameson secretary). KAIMATA. At the meeting of householders on Monday night the following committee was elected: —Messrs. W. A. Burrell, John Klenner, A. Klenner, G. Mackie, and R. Tippins. At the subsequent jneeting of the new committee Mr. Mackie was appointed chairman, and Mr. ,A. Klenner secretary. Mokau.—Messrs S. Whitehead, H. Maine, H. Smith (secretary), J. TirVelV, J. L. Macdonald (chairman and treasurer). Raupuha.—Messrs T. A. Boeoek (chairman). W. Colson (secretary and treasurer), E. Margell, W. B. Smith and C. Lopoth. Upper Uruti —Mr. C. IE Barnitt presided. The balance-sheet showed that the school finances were really good, having a credit balance of over £2O. The following were elected: Messrs C.. II Barnitt (chairman and secretary), A. R. Alpe, E. Guscott, J .J. Murray and W. Old. Ngaere.—Mr. T. E. Coleman presided over eight householders. The balancesheet showed a credit of £7. The average roll was 104, and the attendance 91. The following committee was elected: Messrs'J. E# Coleman (chairman), H. C. Taylor, L. K. Tarrant, R. MeWilliam and A. D. Walker. Mangatoki— Mr. Watts presided over a fair attendance. The balance-sheet sjyod that the sum of £202 had been handled (luring the year. The workshop wa,s now an accomplished fact, and it was hoped arrangements .would be made for the regular attendance of an instructor. A shelter shed for the girls and a combined shelter shed and workshop had been erected, and the-dam had been repaired. The following committee was elected:— Messrs D. L. Rotokare.—Messrs Sluvw (chairman), flaverbier, Babbage, Flavell and Taylor. Matapu.—Messrs Geo. Preece (chairman), Thos. Oardiner, W. A. Guy, R. E. Harrison and A. J. Luxt.on. Okaiawa.—Messrs A. Lees (chairman), Olivers, - Houlahan, Kilcv and Tiplady. A strongly-worded resolution was passed, drawing the board's, attention to tat. 'urgent need of a new 'scii'ool. Tokaora.—Messrs H. E. Johnson (chairman), H. Washer; T. Bolland, S. H Williams and Hihagick. Normanby.—The Wiual report show;ed a credit balance (Jr. £lO 4s 7d. Theroll number \v'as 136, the average attendance being 118:5. The chairman reported that the Minister of Education anifcDr. Anderson had visited the school, and he understood that the.
