CORRESPONDENCE.

' WAIWERA LUNCHEON. To the Editor. ' .Sir, —To-day X received from the Waits era Luncheon' Committee a circular to this effect:—"Your name appears on the list as one of the guarantors against loss Of entertaining visitors tiy the above luntheon. At a meeting of the committee the following resolution was passed, 'That, q, levy of 7 s fid in the £ be made on all those persons whose name appears on the guarantor list.'-'' As one of the guarantors I certainly should like to sae ft meeting called of all those who guaranteed against loss, or else the balance sheet with the names of the guarantors attached sent to each guarantor as well as the amount guaranteed. This. I think, ia a fair business proposition, so that tve may all know who the guarantors are and what we are paying for. This, lo my idea, is the proper procedure instead of demanding point blank the amount. Thanking you anticipation,— [ am, etc., SUBSCRIBER. P.S. —Those who guaranteed £1 get off with 7s fid. Those who guaranteed £3 get eff with £1 17s 6d. Is this fair? / . (A representative of th& News saw the secretary—Mr. A. T. Watkins—who said that, as anticipated, there was a lo,ss over the luncheon; A total of 308 invitations were sent out to dairying and commercial interests, and of these 170 were present. In addition 174 tickets were sold at 10s (id, of which 157 were present at the banquet, making a total of 327 to be catered for. At a meeting after the banquet a balance-sheet "was drawn up. It was decided to make n' call on the guarantors of 7s fid in the '£. and that any balance, over after paying all the accounts he handed over to the Red Cross fund at New Plymouth. The treasurer (Mr. W. J. Chaney) has the baV'we-sheet, which may be seen by any in..'rested person, and the same applies to the guarantee list, which is in the hands of the secretary—Ed.),
