CASEIN MANUFACTURE.
DISCUSSED BY MOA DAIRY COMPANY. NO ACTION TAKEN". An extraordinary general meeting of shareholders of the Moa Farmers' Cooperative Dairy Company Ltd.; was field at Inglewood on Saturday afternoon for the purpose of considering the advisability of installing the necessary plant for the nlanufacture of casein, and consideration of the following'proposals: (1) That the capital of the company he increased to £15,000 lJy the creation of 7000 nc-\v chares at £1 each; (2) that the directors be given power to issue debentures over the whole of the undertaking, instead cf only uncalled capital as at present; t-; that the company contribute one shilling per ton of butter manufactured toward the cost of obtaining tiie. services of an agricultural instructor for the district. Mr. T. S. Bowler, chairman of directors, presided, and there was a large attendance of Shareholders. After some ,discussion as to whether the question of installing a casein plant or that of increasing the capital should be dealt with first, it was decided to deal with the latter before the former, and '-on the motion of Mr. J. O. Taylor, seconded by Mr. Dean the proposal to increase the capital to £15,000 was carried. A letter was read from the- Wanganui Casein Company in which it was estimated that tho Moa Company would receive an additional revenue of £OOOO or £7OOO per season if they carried out the project which would mean a further payment to the suppliers of at least 2d per lb butter-fat, .after allowing for working expenses in connection with the making of the casein curd. Mr. Phil Nathan then addressed the ■meeting on the casein industry, explaining the very purposes for which the product was used. He could not, he said, recommend the feeding of pigs on whey from casein; it being better policy to go in for casein and abandon the breeding of pigs. Mr. R. J. Eabewell characterised the proposal as a Hunnish scheme to assist in the destruction of the British Empire. The nation was crying for food and they were asked to make billiard balls. He moved that the question be postponed sine die. Mr. Baddelev seconded.the motion. Mr. Dean moved as an ainendment, seconded by Mr. J. O. Taylor, that £IOO be voted to any creamery or the central factory for the making of casein as an experiment. On being put both amendment and motion were negatived, the result being that no action was taken on the question. AGRICULTURAL INSTRUCTOR.
Several speakers supported the proposal to grant Is per ton of butter manufactured towards obtaining the services of an agricultural instructor, and, on •..'C motion of Mr. Dean, seconded by Mr. Parli, it was agreed to by 16 votes to I t.
