SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION'.
The attendance of householders on Monday evening was very satisfactory. On the motion of Mr J.'W. McMillan, chairman of the School Committee, Mr K. Masters, chairman of the Education Board, .-.v-as voted to t!\e chair.
Mr Masters stated that ho was very pleased to see the school had obtained such good results during the year. It was an eloquent testimony to Mr Tyrer and lii-i staff that the scholars standing for' examination had done so well. The fame of the school was spreading, and the importance of Stratford as an educational centre becoming more apparent. Tliey had had the Minister of Education here last week, and he seemed very favorably impressed with the idea of a technical high school here. The , committee retiring that night had accomplished much work, and he trusted the new members would likewise do their .best. ITo honed that in this instance all nominated would go to the polls. ; Mr J. W. McMillan, in moving the addition of the report and balance-sheet (reference to which lias been made in these columns), said it was particularly gratifying to find tho school was keeping up its high standard of efficiency during these a'bnormal times. Great credit was due to Air Tvrer and his staff for the excellent results obtained under very trying circumstances. Tho committee had concentrated their main energy on the improvement of the school grounds, and a comprehensive scheme had been drawn lip by Mr Lawn and adopted. When this work was completed, it would be a great improvement. He regretted he would not 'bes.blo to offer his services, as lie wanted to devote the whole of
liis time to municipal matters. Touching on the balance-sheet, lie pointed out that this #vas only tip to December. IMG, in accordance with the Department's financial year. This should be modified, ?o that the balance-sheet would cover the committee's year of office. This could be done toy holding the elections in January.
The report and balance-sheet were then Adopted. 'Fifteen nominations were received for the committee, and the following nine elected:—J. W. Boon, C. H. Lawn, AV. Macdotiald, C. Marbi'n, T. J. McDonald, W. Pinhey, AV. H. Eobinson, G. Smart, and H. Sanderson.
•Votes of thanks were passed to Mr Tyrer and staff, Mr McMillan (latq chairman)., and also to the retiring committee.
'At a meeting of the new committee, Mr J. AV. Boon was appointed chairman and Mr T. 11. Penn, secretary.
