STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) / [All communications, letters, etc., left w.'tli Mr. H. J. Ilopkins, bookseller, will leceive prompt attention.] HON. J. A. HAN'AN'S VISIT. Stratford, April 30. Minister for Education (Hon. J. A. Hamui) lias left iiie province, and many are hopeful that the visit will be productive of much good. Stratford educationalists received somewhat of a ?hot:k when the Minister announced himself at least favorable to the establishment of a technical high school in this district. The general opinion held bv those interested was thai an ordinary -high sr-hcol should be established. The proposal of the Minister, however, has some advantages, inasmuch as the present classical courses taken at the district high school can he taken at the technical high school, and in addition agriculture, commercial subjects, etc., °will be available. Public ophii'n 01 today points in the direction of something practical being done in our secondary educational institutions, and no doubt the Hon. ,T. A. Har.an, in giving an indication of a technical .high school being established would meet the expressed and unexpressed wishes of the general public. Dr Anderson, Director of Education, was doubtful as to the advisability of taking over the 43 acres offered by the Model Farm Committee. He, however,, stressed the point that he had an open mind on this parti-" cular question, and would give it very careful consideration. That this will be a distinct advantage to the sclfool is obvious. 2Co difficulty is expected in sejuring the necessary boarding accommodation, and the products of the 43 acres would be utilised by the school to the economic advantage of those controlling the expenditure. Again, the practical instruction given to the pupils in this production would be of extreme value to those bovs taking an agriculture! course. There is a consensus of | opinion in Stratford that the 43 acres should be attached to the school when I established. ! GENERAL i 'i he members of the Croquet Club coni" '•!<! the patriotic mart and tea.u on Saturday. The takings, £3S, be considered extremely good, aii.! showed that the -public are appreciating the work of the ladies. It has been sviggc-sted to me that for one Sat'urdav the men might take control. The idea is nvorthy of consideration, and I'm sure the rooms would be thronged. Mr A. D. Stanley, secretary or the A. and P. Association, has had to lay up again. On inquiry this morning, an improvement was noted, aiv ! , in common with many other friends. 1 hope to sea Mr Stanley soon about again. When you notice a lady stop suddenly and' gaze intently in a shop window, be sure she is interested. The observant will notice this frequently happens at Mr C. E. James' jewellery warehouse. He is showing a most attractive display of goods, including a "glorious range" of Japanese postcards and views. One has heard of mountain range and cooking range, but the ladies go one better with the glorious range, so satisfy your curiosity by observing same—the cards, r.ot the ladies.
