TARANAKI EXECUTIVE MEETLNiGj\ A mooting of tho Taranaki Provincial! Executive of the New Zealand Farmers'' Union was held at Hawera on Wednesday. COfiRESPONDENCE. 'A letter was received from the secretary of the Taranaki Wur Relief Association, advising that the annual meeting of the association would be held in 'May, and asking the executive to nominate its repreesntative on the association's executive for the current year.

Mr Lambie moved that Mr Dunn, the present delegate be ro-noininatcd, which was tarried unanimously. A communication was received from Mr V. Coiwern, Kawhia, with reference to the supply .of limo to farmers, tat it was decided to defer consideration pending further information,, which it was expected would be available for the annual meeting. The secretary < the Manain branch wrote forwarding a list of members. The meetings during the year had been well attended.

The secretary of the Auroa (branch also advised that tho brandi had [had a very successful year. The secretary of the Riverlea branch wrote advising that at the annual meeting Mr D. P. P. Malone was electee president, and that 'Mr Malone had been appointed the branch's delegate at the provincial conference.

REMITS. The following remits wero received for Hie provinoiaj conference:— Riverlea: (1) Tliat the Taranaki Farmers' Union offer their services to returned soldiers of Taranaki to assist them in finding good positions—that is, In the case of men who have not succeeded in securing work through the Government; (2) tnat it bo a. recommendation to the Government that farmers' income and excess profits particulars he set out in one paper instead of in several as at present, thus simplifying the fT.ing in of returns; (3) that it 'he a recommendation to the Government to have all cu".' cows and tells branded to prevent the same being again sold for dairy purposes.

| Opunake: That as the returns for dairy produce represent tho wage:, of the dairyman and his family—which wages are, in fact, the hardest-earned and at the lowest rate of any section of the community—the Opimako branch protests against the butter-fat tax. Eltliam: (1) That the Government be asked to give encouragement to the development of lime in the Toko-Wlianga-moniona district; (2) that the conference protests against the butter-fat levy as being unfair in its application and as it is not in any way a war tax; (3) that it bo a recommendation to the provincial, conference that the membership subscription to branches be uniform.

■Hawera: That this meeting of the Hawera branch expresses its sympathy and 'Willingness to heartily co-operate with the Government in their endeavor to carry out the Military Service Act. Auroa: (1) That the Land Agents A-t be amended so that where a land agent is acting for both parties a solicitor he engaged to draw up the contract; (2) that the I.WAV. Union bo declared an unlawful association; (3) tliat the Valuer-General bo asked to exercise greater care in keeping harbor boards and other local authorities supplied with up-to-date valuation rolls; (4) economise by using more vegetables and reduce the more costly foods, vegetables only costing M and 2d per lb; ('">) scientific research to prevent waste and utilise waste products; (0) soil survey to determine the requirements of the land; (7) that the Government introduce a liberal scheme of land settlement to induce men to settle on the land in increased numbers; (S) that a system be devised to provido immigration to this ■country, and that special inducements be given to men with families and who arc agriculturists; (9) that all wool be scoured before leaving Xow Zealand. The executive also decided to submit a remit to the conference with regard to the butter-fat tax and also as to the necessity for farmerg Weeping 'proper books.

It was resolved that all the remits received from the branches lie sent on fo the conference for consideration. •PROGRESS OF THE UNION. 'The acting-secretary reported that over 100 new members had been adde' to the membership of the branches during the year. The president said it was evident that the union was progressing in the province.
