RAMSGATE SHELLED.
DAMAGE ONLY SLIGHT. London, ApriL 27.. Shrieking shells awakened Ranisgfie at 1.15 this morning, followed by scattered explosions. The attack came without warning. The whole place was darKened in accordance with the rigid rule for the whole of the East Coast. Suddenly vivid star shells lit up the sky and heavy firing immediately followed. The attack lasted ten minutes and it is estimated that sixty shells fell. They were accompanied by the constant scream of star shells. The enemy 'was apparently firing'at random, as the shells fell mostly in the higher part of the town. The damage was comparatively slight. Wellington, April 28. The High Commissioner reports undo' date London, April 27 (1.25 p.m.):— The Admiralty atateß that at night several enemy destroyers opened fire in the direction of Ramsgate. Their fire was immediately returned, and the enemy driven off after they had fired a large number of round? Two persons were killed and three injured, 21 houses and two stables damaged, and a horse killed. The projectiles mostly fell in the open country.
