BOWLING.
XEW PLYMOUTH CLUB, CLOSING OF THE SEASON. There was a good attendance of members and visiting bowlers at the Xew Plymouth Club's green yesterday on the occasion of the closing of the club's green for the season. The weather was fine aiul the green wns playing' well, so that the bowlers had an enjoyable time, which was enhanced by tlic afternoon tea that was dispensed by the club. A match was played between teams .picked bv the president and vice-president, resulting in a win for the former's team by 137 points to 111. Among those present \vas Mr Fountain, a Dunedin player, who was a couple of years ago Dominion Singles Champion. The following are the detailed scores, the president's rinks being mentioned first:

Before dispersing, Mr. A. K. Smart, vice president, apologised for the absence of the president, !ind other vice president, and formally -closed the green. iThe.v had had an enjoyable season, hut as the green had begun to break up owing to the dry season and the heavy , tournament play they were curtailing play toy closing early In order to effect improvements.. The club had been fairly successful, having won the banner at this end, only to lose it to Pihama, and in the Saturday competition they had won the Gilmour Cup. He also congratulated the club's rinlc under Mr. H. Smart on their excellent performance at the Dominion tournament, when they got into the semi-final and had hard luck in not winning the Championship Cup. They followed this up by winning at Palmerston. He congratulated Mr. 11. Fookes on having Won the singles championship two years in succession, so that the cup now became his property, and also Nr. ,0. N. Firth oil having won tiie handicap singles. . 'Mr. J. D. Sole, president of the West End Clu'b, then handed over to Mr. Smart for sao keeping the Gilmour Cup;, stating that West End would endeavor to win it hack next) year. He referred to the excellent feeling that existed throughout the competition, and hoped that each club would have its name engraved on the cup in turn. Cheers were then given iby the visitors for the New Plymouth Clrtb.
