Mr. E. A. Meredith, Crown lands ranger, reported on section IG4S and part 1(144 Tawm of New Plymouth area, flac. Ir. 0.0p.-r-Eesolved to open the land under the Education Reserves Acts and section 5 ,g) of the Public Bodies Leases Act, 1908, at an upset rental of £2 pir annum. Mr. Mereditli also reported on sections 1, 2, 4-12, 14-20, block XXV., Town of Manaia, 4ac. 2r. Op.—Resolved, to open as above for a term of seven years at an annual rental of £9 ss. ' CORRESPONDENCE AND MISCELLANEOUS. P. J. Churchill, lessee of section 1, block 11., Rangi S.D„ 320 acres, applied to surrender the, section.—Forfeited; the land to be re-opened for discharged soldiers. The rescinding of forfeiture of R.L.L.S. 43, block IV., Paritutu S.IX, lac. Ir. 39jj.j was approved. Application 'by C. A. Duffy, lessee of R.L. section 5, block IV., Itapara S.D., 460 acres, for exemption from residence during the war was adjourned until the June meeting. Mary Steffert, lessee of O.ft.P. section 3, block IV., Heao S.D., SGI acres, waa granted 12 months' exemption from residence owing to her son's absence at the war. Mr. E. Griffiths was appointed arbitrator in connection with the lease oJ sections 1322 and 1323 New Plymouth Town, Oac. 2r. 2p., nvhieh expires on the 31st May, 1518. DEPARTMENTAL CORRESPONDENCE. The Under-Secretary for Lands forwarded various communications as fol low: With respect to selling "worthless" land under section 30 of the Land Laws Amendment Act, 1914, and conveying the Crown Law Officer's interpretation of the term "worthless" within the meaning of the Land Act.—Resolved to rescind Board's resolution of November 22, 1916, and take no further action at the present time. Regarding delay tn completion of transfers by registration by parties concerned and suggesting that a condition requiring registration within a specified time should be attached to all consents in the future.—Received.

With respect to the proposed opening ■of section 11, block VII., Omona S.D., 490 acres.—Resolved to rescind the Board's resolution of March 28, 1017, and open the section under section 4 of the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Actj 1915, at 25s per acre capital value. The Under Secretary for Lands advises that in future all applications T>y members of the Expeditionary Forces for remission qr postponement of rent, etc.. under section 22 of the Land Laws Amendment Act, 1016, or Section 13 o? the War Legislation Amendment 'Act, 1910, shall tie dealt iwith by the Financial Asistance Board instead of by the Land Board.—Received. Terence Reardon, lessee of O.R.P. section 1, block X*., Mah'oe S.D., '529 acres, was granted 12 months' extension of time to complete improvements as he will be leaving on active service shortly. The resident engineer, Public Works Department, Taumarttnui t . asks if section 9, block X., Suburbs of Aria, Oac. 3r. 7p., could be set aside for erection of stahlo for overseer—Resolved to withhold the land from sale or lease in the meantime.

Mr. Geo. Gray's, solicitor, application for consent to transfer allotment 1, part sections 230S and 2309, Town of New Plymouth, held under E.R. lease—Mrs. 11. M. Buckman to Jas. Clarke—was approved subject to production of certificate as to compliance with conditions as to noxious weds.

Mr. Bedding, of Ohura, owner of part Mangaroa C No. 2 block (block Vl.,' Ohura S.D.), appeared before the Board with regard to acquiring an additional area of f>o acres of Crown land adjoining (section 5). It was resolved to defer dealing with the land for the present. The Board in committee dealt with one application for consent to mortgage at current rate of interest, also two applications for postponement of collection of rent at the usual rate of interest. In the case of a discharged soldier a recommendation was made for an advance for improvements for house and fencing in terms of the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915.
